Northern Cyprus and the way to a good Extra Virgin Olive Oil production

Less than one month ago, the coastal city of Girne hosted the thirteenth edition of "Olive Festival". Olive Festival Program
The program of the festival included dances, music and, of course good food. Some politicians took part in this festival. Derviş Eroğlu, president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, asked about olive, stressed the importance of the olives and of the products related to it.
This statement made by an influencial leader seems to strengthen the policy of the ZEYBİR, the union of olives and olive oil producers, that is trying to spread the awareness of the importance of olive oil for its health and economical benefits.

İrfan Çelik, head of the union, is struggling to promote the culture of olive oil, explaining how and when to harvest, to process, to store this liquid gold with multiple media campains, since 2011, when Northern Cyprus decided to ban imports of olive oil to support local production.
ZEYBİR and Çelik are sure that this small Mediterranean country, that hosts more than one milion of olive trees over its soil and that is producing an average of 2.000 tons of olive oils, could be in few years a brillant player in international markets, if the Northern Cypriots will bet on quality.
